# How to add an announcement with a countdown timer

The announcement is a colored bar at the top of the cart drawer. Use it for a promotion, a shipping note or a countdown that tells customers their cart is reserved for a limited time.

# ${color}[#204a87](Turn on the announcement)

1. Open **ShopCart** and click **Edit** in the **Cart Drawer** card.
2. Turn on the **Announcements** toggle on the left and click **Announcements**.

# ${color}[#204a87](Write the announcement text)

1. Open the **Announcement** section.
2. Enter your text in **Text**, up to 200 characters. You can make words strikethrough or underlined and add a link.
3. To show the countdown inside the text, add `{{timer}}` where it should appear, for example "Just a heads up: your cart expires in {{timer}}". You can also insert it with the **{}** button.
4. Click **Save** at the top of the editor.

To change the background color, text color, size and alignment, open the **Styles** tab.

# ${color}[#204a87](Set up the countdown timer)

1. Open the **Timer** section and make sure its toggle is on.
2. Set the length of the countdown in **Hour** and **Minutes**.
3. In **Once it ends**, choose what happens when the time runs out:
   * **Hide the announcement**: the bar disappears.
   * **Repeat the countdown**: the timer starts again.
4. Click **Save**.

To show the text without a countdown, turn off the **Timer** toggle and remove `{{timer}}` from the text.

# ${color}[#204a87](What customers see)

The announcement is shown at the top of the cart, under the cart title. The timer keeps counting when the customer reloads the page or opens another page of your store.

|| The timer only creates urgency. It doesn't empty the cart or change prices when it ends.
