# How to add shipping protection or another add-on

An add-on is an optional extra that customers turn on with one switch in the cart, for example shipping protection or gift wrapping. It adds a small amount to the order with almost no effort from the customer.

# ${color}[#204a87](What an add-on is)

ShopCart offers three types of add-ons:

* **Shipping protection**: a fee that covers damage, loss or theft during shipping.
* **Gift wrapping**: a fee for wrapping the order as a gift.
* **Product add-on**: any product from your store, for example an extended warranty.

For **Shipping protection** and **Gift wrapping**, ShopCart creates the product in your Shopify admin for you. For **Product add-on**, click **Browse** and choose one of your products.

|| ShopCart only provides a tool to show shipping protection in the cart. It doesn't offer shipping protection or insurance services itself.

# ${color}[#204a87](Set up the add-on)

1. Open **ShopCart** and click **Edit** in the **Cart Drawer** card.
2. Turn on the **Add-ons** toggle on the left and click **Add-ons**.
3. In **Select the Product that you want to offer**, choose **Shipping protection**, **Gift wrapping** or **Product add-on**.
4. Change the **Image**, **Title**, **Description** and **Price** if you need to.
5. Click **Save** at the top of the editor.

To change the background, text and switch colors, open the **Styles** tab.

# ${color}[#204a87](What customers see)

The add-on is shown at the bottom of the cart with its image, price and a switch. When a customer turns the switch on, the add-on is added to the order. When they turn it off, it's removed.

The add-on isn't shown in the list of products in the cart. Customers see it on the checkout page as a separate item.

# ${color}[#204a87](Hide the add-on product from your catalog)

The add-on is a real product in **Products** in your Shopify admin, so customers can also find it in your collections and search. To hide it there but keep it in the cart:

1. Open **Products** and click the add-on product, for example **Shipping protection**.
2. In **Status**, choose **Unlisted** and click **Save**.

|| Don't set the add-on product to **Draft** or delete it. Customers can't buy a draft product, so the add-on disappears from the cart.
