Quick start in ShopCart

ShopCart replaces your theme's cart with its own cart drawer. This article takes you from installing the app to a working cart on your store in five steps.


Step 1: Turn on the app embed


ShopCart works through a theme app embed. It doesn't change your theme code.


  1. Open ShopCart in your Shopify admin.
  2. In the Theme extension card, click Activate. If the status already says Active, go to Step 2.




  1. In the Your cart is not displayed in your theme window, click Activate extension.




  1. The theme editor opens with App embeds, and the Activate ShopCart toggle is already turned on. Click Save in the top-right corner.




  1. Go back to ShopCart. The Theme extension status changes to Active.


The app embed is turned on for one theme only. If you publish another theme later, turn on Activate ShopCart in that theme too.


Step 2: Open the cart drawer editor


In the Customize your cart section, click Edit in the Cart Drawer card.




The editor opens. The settings are on the left and a live preview of the cart is on the right. Use the device icons at the top to see the cart on desktop, tablet and mobile.


Step 3: Choose the design and widgets


  1. Open Design and pick a ready-made look in Color templates, or set your own colors and font in Theme setting.
  2. Turn on the widgets you want with the toggles on the left: Announcements, Rewards, Discount code, Upsells, Add-ons and Agreements. Header, Products in cart and Footer are always shown.
  3. Click a widget to change its texts and settings. Most widgets have a Settings tab and a Styles tab.


Step 4: Save and publish the cart


  1. Click Save in the Unsaved changes bar at the top of the editor.
  2. Click Publish. The Cart Status changes from Inactive to Publish, and the button changes to Unpublish.




When you publish the cart, ShopCart adds an automatic discount called ShopCart Automatic Discount to Discounts in your Shopify admin. It applies the rewards from the cart. Don't delete or turn it off.


To hide the ShopCart cart again, click Unpublish. Your settings are kept.


Step 5: Check the cart on your store


Open your store, add a product to the cart, or click the cart icon in the header. The ShopCart drawer opens with the widgets you turned on.




If the cart doesn't appear, check that Theme extension is Active and Cart Status is Publish, then reload the store page.
