Playbooks in React Flow
Playbooks are ready-made automations built around a proven goal. You turn one on, and React Flow builds and launches the whole automation for you — no workflow to assemble, no triggers to pick. From that moment the Playbook runs on its own and reports its results on its card.
This article explains what Playbooks have in common, how to work with them, and which ones are available right now.
Where to find Playbooks
In your Shopify admin, open Apps → React Flow → Playbooks.
The page lists every available Playbook as a card. Each card shows the Playbook's name, a one-line description of what it does, and its current status — Active or Inactive. The counter in the top-right corner (for example, 1 of 3 active) tells you how many you are running.

Playbooks available today
All three Playbooks target the same thing: revenue you are already close to earning but currently lose.
Second-order accelerator — "After the first purchase, triggers a personal offer to drive a repeat."
A first order is the hardest one to get; the second one decides whether you have a customer or a one-off sale. When a new customer places their first order, this Playbook issues them a personal discount code and emails it with a thank-you. Use it to turn first-time buyers into repeat buyers.
Win-back customers — "Finds customers who stopped buying and invites them back with a discount that grows the longer they have been away."
Runs on a schedule, collects the customers who haven't ordered within the period you set, and emails each one a personal code. Use it to reactivate a list you already paid to acquire, without exporting segments by hand.
Abandoned checkout recovery — "Reaches out to shoppers who left items behind at checkout and brings them back to finish the order."
Sends a reminder as soon as a checkout is abandoned, waits, and only then follows up with a discount code — so you don't discount customers who would have come back anyway. Use it to recover orders that were one click away.
How to turn a Playbook on
- Open the Playbooks page.
- Find the Playbook you want and click Activate.
That's the whole setup. There is no configuration step to get through first — the card immediately switches to Active, the metrics row appears, and the automation starts running with sensible defaults.
What a Playbook creates
Activating a Playbook creates real workflows in your store. Open React Flow → Workflows and you'll see two new entries per Playbook, both marked with a blue Playbook badge:
- the working workflow — the one that sends emails and creates discount codes;
- a (tracking) workflow — the one that watches incoming orders and fills in the Playbook's metrics.

You can open these workflows like any other, but they stay tied to the Playbook: the workflow name is locked, and steps can't be deleted. Manage them from the Playbook page instead.
Adjusting a Playbook's steps
Click Settings on a card to open the Playbook page. Every Playbook page is built the same way:
- Metrics at the top — the results this Playbook has produced so far.
- Steps below — the trigger and the actions, in the order they run.
- About this trigger / About this action / About this wait panels on the right — a plain-language explanation of each step plus a How it works list.

The fields on each step are editable, so you can tune a Playbook without touching the workflow itself. Typical things worth changing: the discount type and percentage, how long a code stays valid, the length of a wait, or the schedule a Playbook runs on.
Steps that send an email show the subject line and a preview of the message, so you can see exactly what the customer receives.
Editing a step in the workflow editor
Some steps carry a pencil icon. Click it to open the underlying workflow in the full React Flow editor, with that step's settings panel already open.

This is where you'll see the complete logic — including steps the Playbook page doesn't show, such as the condition that limits the Second-order accelerator to first-time buyers. Use the editor when you need the advanced settings of a step; use the Playbook page for everyday adjustments.
Where to check the results
Each active Playbook reports three metrics, both on its card and at the top of its Playbook page:
- Order revenue — revenue from orders attributed to the Playbook.
- Clicks — link clicks in emails sent by the Playbook.
- Orders — orders placed with a discount code created by the Playbook.
Click any metric to open its own page, with a chart, a comparison against the previous period, and a day-by-day breakdown. Use the date picker to change the range.
A freshly activated Playbook shows No data yet until its first results come in.
How to turn a Playbook off
Click Deactivate on the card or on the Playbook page, then confirm in the dialog.

Read the warning before you confirm — deactivating is not a pause:
- the workflows the Playbook created are deleted;
- any changes you made to its steps are lost, and turning the Playbook back on starts it over from its original setup;
- the results it collected are deleted too and can't be restored.
